Apple's true wireless AirPods Pro earphones are vastly superior to the standard model, with solid noise cancellation, quality audio performance, and a far better in-ear fit that justifies the extra cost. Apple isn't the first company to make true wireless earphones, but there's no denying it's the company that popularized them with its seemingly ubiquitous AirPods. Despite their popularity, we weren't big fans of the first two models, so it comes as a surprise how much we like the new AirPods Pro. For $249, these are actual earphones that seal off your ear canal, as opposed to resting against it like regular AirPods. This makes for a tremendous improvement in fit as well as audio performance, with rich bass depth and crisp high-mid presence. The AirPods Pro also deliver strong active noise cancellation (ANC) in a certified splash-proof build. While they don't quite take the crown for best-in-class sound quality, the AirPods Pro are great true wireless headphones that exceed the standard AirPods in nearly every way.
Pros:
- The AirPods Pro have an ultracompact
- lightweight
- noise-isolating and sweatproof design that fits more ears securely and delivers better bass and overall sound than the original AirPods.
Cons:
- The sound quality is good, but some competitors sound better
- It's unclear if these have better long-term battery life than the original AirPods.

All of which is to say that I’m not ready to pass judgement on them. My initial impression is that people who loved the AirPods will almost certainly love these much more. Apple likely has a huge hit on its hands.

But that could soon change. Battery life and sound quality are areas where rival earbuds already top the AirPods Pro. If Sennheiser, Sony, or Master & Dynamic can close the gap in other areas, then they'll put up a serious fight against Apple's buds.

Apple's AirPods are the most popular headphones in the world. Go outside, take a look around, and it's very likely you'll see someone with white plastic stems coming out of their ears. Once ridiculed, we've come to shrug and accept this signature look as normal.

- No improvements to battery life

Well done, Apple! With the AirPods Pro, the company from Cupertino has created a truly amazing true wireless headphones that currently offer the best compromise between wearing comfort, sound and battery life.
