a review of a parents
The Canon 50mm 1.4 gobbles light. It opens up a world of indoor photography that is not possible with a 4.0 lens. The 50mm focal length combined with available light produces natural-looking results. It is exactly what your eye sees. Shadows and highlights are intact.

Perfect Lens for Portraits
First of all the price was great and lower than many other sites I had looked at and the delivery time was fast! The lens arrived in well packaged and has already exceeded my expectations. With the low aperture it's a perfect lens for portraits and items that you want high detail on.

Good if you need the improved focus and build quality
"I will admit that I am on the fence regarding this lens. I love shooting with 50 mm prime lenses, and this lens is a good compromise between price and performance. The image quality is excellent stopped down, but wide open I find it can be disappointing.

I'm very satisfied. Have it, enjoy it !
Use in low light without using a flash (ex: an artist on stage, a kid blowing candles), night photographie.... <br />This is one of the lenses to have absolutely !
Pros:
- Durable
- Easy To Use
- Lightweight
- Powerful Output

Perfect
It's an excellent product. The images come out very clear, great for portraits and places where there is a lot of light (duh). All your body imperfections will appear in the pictures taken with this lens.

Very nice lens for the money
Very nice lense for the price. Amazing low light performance. If you have to choose between this and 50mm 1.8 do not hesitate and get this one. it is way better and for less than $ 200 difference you get much more for the money.
Pros:
- Canon Quality
- Easy To Use
- Good value
- Lightweight
- Sharp
- Wide Aperture
Cons:
- Noisy focus
- Not Sharp Wide Open

Good Lens
Overall good for the money. Honestly can't say its worth the extra 150 or so dollars over the f/1.8 version.
Pros:
- Good Sharpness
- Great Bokeh and good for portraits and product photography
Cons:
- AF hunts A LOT
- Soft at f/1.4 but corrects at f/1.6 and up
- even though its USM it is still very noisy in my opinion and doesnt seem to be able to focus at the 1.5' as advertised the closest I can get is 3'
- I might have gotten a bad copy, stil testing it may send it to Canon

Great lens
Great lens overall, decided to upgrade to full frame and purchased this prime to go with it, build quality of the lens is better than most people say, can be a bit slow to focus in auto so best to do it manually Overall it's a great piece of kit for your camera bag
