Epson Perfection V800 Photo
Although the Epson Perfection V800 Photo ($739.99) is a flatbed scanner -and can scan photographic prints- its real value is as a film scanner. It can handle both positive and negative film (including slides) in sizes ranging from 35mm to as large as 8 by 10 inches.
Pros:
- High-quality scans for photographic prints and film (including slides)
- Scan modes range from full auto to full control over settings
Cons:
- Doesn't come with a photo editor or any other application program

Epson Perfection V800 Photo Review
The Epson Perfection V800 Photo scanner delivers top-quality scans for photographic prints, as well as for film (positive or negative) as large as 8 by 10 inches. It can handle both positive and negative film (including slides) in sizes ranging from 35mm to as large as 8 by 10 inches. You don't have to look any further than the price to know that it's aimed at serious photographers who insist on high-quality scans. More important, it delivers enough to make it our Editors' Choice for a top-quality film scanner, particularly for prosumers. The V800 ($2,884.10 at Amazon) is the next-generation version of the highly regarded Epson Perfection V700 Photo ($1,249.99 at Amazon) , which it is in the process of replacing. It offers many of the same features, including a claimed 6,400-pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution and a 4.0 Dmax rating, which promises the ability to distinguish small changes in shading over the full range from white to black, particularly for shadow detail (details based on shading ...

Excellent scans froml slides and negatives
I had been using an old Perfection 2450 to scan slides and negatives for creating photos to sell on Ebay. I was never happy with the scanned images which lacked the sharp definition of the original slides and negatives.

Epson Perfection V800 Photo scanner
The great thing about this photo scanner is that it is clearly designed to excel at scanning photographs in just about every possible way. In terms of image detail this model is hard to beat, offering optical resolution up to 4800x6400 dpi, which can be increased to up to 12,800x12,800 dpi through...

Top product from a top manufacturer
At last, a multifunction scanner that does an excellent job. Integrates well with Mac OSX and produces first rate results. Bundled OS software is not for Mac setup so requires on line access to Epson.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Build quality

I got this scanner for a huge family project to scan my late parents photos and negatives from the 1930s to the 2000's. I am actually scanning the bulk of prints for the 70s on with a Fujitsu ScanSnap.

fastscan
Scanner is fast to warm up and fast to scan. Doing all my scans at double resolution or higher now because of speed. Epson scan software is straightforward. Have tried few negatives so far but with no problems. Speed is better than I expected.

works as advertised but advanced settings are complicated
I'm pretty happy with this purchase but scanning slides is very time-consuming. The carrier tray only holds 12 at a time and you need to be careful inserting and removing them to not bend the clips or fingerprint the slides.

This is a great tool for the digital darkroom and archives.
This scanner is more versatile than my old Nikon V. It also has equal or better specs. Putting all these scanning media options together in a flatbed is real bang for buck! One criticism.. and it isn't aimed specifically at Epson.. The majority of my most valuable work is B&W negative based.
