Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm F1.4 R

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm F1.4 R ($899.99) is a wide-aperture prime lens for Fuji X cameras that covers a classic 35mm field of view in full-frame terms. Its f/1.4 f-stop means that it can capture a heck of a lot of light, and also create a shallow depth of field.
Pros:
  • Sharp from edge to edge at f/1.4
  • Minimal distortion
  • Manual focus clutch
  • Aperture ring
Cons:
  • Lacks stabilization and weather sealing
  • Pricey

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm F2 R WR Review

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm F2 R WR is an extremely crisp, compact lens for X mirrorless cameras. It's a fine choice for any photographer looking for a weather-sealed wide-angle prime. The Fujinon XF 23mm F2 R WR ($449) is the second in Fujifilm's new line of compact, weather-sealed f/2 prime lenses for its X mirrorless camera system. It's an excellent performer, delivering crisp images from edge to to edge, in a package that matches well with the company's premium cameras. It only captures half the light as the larger, premium XF 23mm F1.4 R ($899.00 at Amazon) at its maximum aperture, but it also comes in at half the price. If you don't lust after the more extreme depth of field control offered at f/1.4, the XF 23mm F2 R is an excellent optic, and one that's worthy of being called Editors' Choice. Design The XF 23mm F2 ($449.99 at Amazon) measures just 2.4 by 2.0 inches (HD), weighs a scant 6.4 ounces, and supports 43mm filters. The XF 23mm F1.4 is a larger, heavier optic, coming in at 2.8 by 2.5 inches and weighing 10.6 ounces. Neither 23mm lens has image stabilization, a feature that Fujifilm has, to date, reserved for zoom lenses. The F2 lens is available...
Pros:
  • Very compact
  • Crisp optics
  • Minimal distortion
  • Even illumination
  • Weather-sealed design
  • Physical aperture control
  • Affordable
Cons:
  • Omits optical stabilization
  • No focus clutch

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 23mm F2 R WR Lens review

Because it covers a ‘normal’ visual perspective and is relatively affordable for a medium format lens, the GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR is likely to be one of the first lenses chosen when photographers buy into Fujifilm’s medium format system.

Fujifilm XF23mm F2 R WR lens review

The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR is a very compact wide-angle lens for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, delivering a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view. With an F2 maximum aperture, it's a bit slower than other X-mount prime options at the same focal length, but in exchange, it's much smaller and lighter than the competition, making it a great walkaround or travel option. The lens captures a lot of detail and has virtually no distortion, though shooting subjects close up and wide open can produce slightly soft images. Bokeh is generally pleasing, albeit with some cat's eye effects. Some vignetting is visible at larger apertures, as well as some longitudinal chromatic aberration wide open.
Pros:
  • Any application for which a smaller, lighter lens is desirable, including travel or street photography.
Cons:
  • Photographers who would benefit from faster F1.4 apertures found on competing lenses
  • photographers who want to take photos of subjects close-up with wide-open apertures.

Fujinon XF 23mm f/1.4 R (Fujifilm) - Review / Test Report

The Fujinon XF 23mm f/1.4 R is a highly attractive addition to the Fujifilm lens lineup. It combines an ultra-large aperture with high quality results. At large aperture settings the center quality is already pretty high whereas the borders/corners are at least on a good level.

Fujifilm XF 50mm f/2 R WR

The quality of the images created using this lens don't disappoint, and by opening the lens to its widest aperture setting of f/2 it's possible to create a pleasing separation between near and far subjects.
Pros:
  • Small and practical to carry
  • Lightweight
  • Robustly made
  • Satisfying to use
  • Delivers great results
Cons:
  • More expensive than the XF 23mm f/2 R WR and XF 35mm f/2 WR
  • Bokeh isn't as dreamy as the XF 56mm f/1.2 R or XF 56mm f/1.2 APD ASPH

This lens is what 35mm photography is all about...

I'm able to accomplish amazing things with just this one lens. The sharpness, rendering, and color delivered by this lens is something to behold. Distortion is very well controlled as well.

This is my second copy of the 35/2 WR, and I've shot extensively with the older and pricier 35/1.4 as well. I can only say that both copies of the WR have been beautifully sharp and very well made. The lens is light, weather sealed, and feels great on the camera (currently shooting an X-E3).
