Huawei Mate 20 Pro review: A fire-breathing dragon

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a knock-out. The Chinese tech giant's latest flagship executes the basics effectively, while excelling in our performance tests, and boasts enough bells and whistles to keep things interesting. There are a few bugbears, but nothing close to a dealbreaker.

Exceptional performance; Great camera; Vibrant display; Strong collection of features

Massive notch; Clever but awkward in-screen fingerprint reader; No 3.5mm jack

Huawei Mate 20 Pro review: One of the best flagship smartphones around

MWC 2019 is just around the corner and Huawei is sure to announce some new devices. Huawei's Mate 20 Pro has been out for a while now but still remains relevant. We've had some decent time with one and even with new devices on the horizon, it's still one of the best choices around.

Superb Phone

The Huawei Mate20 Pro has been a treat to test and use. The Kirin 980 processor makes it really fast and really smooth running. It hasn't slowed down for anything and no videos or games had stalled. I'm super happy with the phone and I think it is really good.

Camera is amazing!

Upgraded to this phone from Note8 , I am impressived , the camera is amazing , be able to do tons of features which other phone never can. The face ID unlock is super fast, fast as I couldn't noticed it exists, and the in screen finger print unlock is very handy as well.

After just over a week's use, I am really happy with the phone. I was a little worried about gluegate but have not had any problems with my copy so far. I previously had a Moto Z, and Mate 20 pro is about the same size, but the screen takes up almost the entire front of the phone.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro: camera review

Huawei has done it again with the Mate 20 Pro - this is one of the best camera phones on the market, easily matching the Huawei P20 Pro for lenses and quality. Yes, we miss the monochrome lens but the pictures you can take are utterly impressive.

Superb lens setup; Fantastic portrait mode; Ultra-wide lens really works

HDR is vibrant but we wanted more; No monochrome lens

Huawei Mate 20 pro Review: The Innovator of 2018

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is an expensive phone. It's even more expensive than the Note 9 here in Nepal. But this device here packs in a lot more than all the other flagship smartphones offer.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro feels, and looks, like a true flagship device, with an abundance of technology crammed into a stylish and relatively compact smartphone, considering the large 6.39inch screen.

Leica Triple Camera; Ultra-wide-angle 16mm equivalent lens; Master AI can produce some very good looking photos; Large 4200mAh battery; In-screen fingerprint reader; Stereo speakers

Focus issues with telephoto and standard lens at times; Strong purple fringing from the ultra-wide-angle lens; Selfie camera focus point; 4K video framerate alters; High price

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a great device that is fast, lasts all day and an amazing camera. The Mate 20 Pro is perfect for those wanting an alternative to the iPhone, Galaxy or Google Pixel. Huawei just needs to make EMUI a bit better and improve the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Great display; Amazing camera with AI that works; Premium design & build; A battery that truly lasts all-day; Quick performance

EMUI still needs work; In-display fingerprint sensor can be finicky
