Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art Canon Lens - Brand New review

First of all you get a unique lens, unavailable in any other line-up. With that angle of view the best rivals offer you devices by about 1 EV slower. Secondly, the resolution results in the frame centre would break records even several years ago and they are typical for many Art series primes.
Pros:
  • Solid and weather-sealed casing,, Sensational image quality in the frame centre already from the maximum relative aperture,, Good image quality on the edge of the APS-C,, Lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, Imperceptible lateral chromatic aberration,, Sensible distortion...
Cons:
  • Resolution on the edge of full frame could have been a bit better,, Weak performance against bright light,, A bit too high coma level,, Impossible to use classic filters.

A Great Superwide

This lens offers something other super-wides do not - a fast aperture! This separates it from the other super-wide products. It offers minimal vignetting for such a wide and fast lens and minimal coma - great for astronomy. I had no flare issues while imaging throughout the August 2017 eclipse.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art

The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens stole the headlines as the first ultra-wide angle lens for full-frame cameras to break the f/2 barrier. No other ultra-wide angle rectilinear lens is as fast. Fast ultra-wide angle lenses are a rarity and your choices in this category are few.

Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art Canon Lens - Brand New review

The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM ART is an impressive lens both physically as well as regarding its creative potential. However, its extreme credentials don't come for free. Yes, it offers an insane max. aperture at this focal length but at least technically you won't find greatness at f/1.8.

Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art

Ultra-wide lenses aren't everyday tools for most photographers, but for some disciplines they're indispensable. I tend to recommend zooms at this end of the coverage range, as they're more versatile tools, giving you the ability to capture a wider variety of subjects without changing lenses.
Pros:
  • Ultra-wide field of view
  • Very bright aperture
  • Very sharp
  • Solid build
  • Dust and splash protection
  • Available for multiple camera systems
Cons:
  • Some barrel distortion
  • Soft edges and corners at wide apertures
  • Dim corners
  • Doesn't support front filters

Very capable lens

A very capable lens giving very pleasing results. It does however take some time to master but in a good way as I think after practice will be a favourite in my bag. Central frame is extremely sharp and perfect for stars and night scenes. Edge focus washes out quickly but also crops out easily.
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Quick Focus
  • Rugged
  • Sharp Focus
  • Strong Construction
Cons:
  • Needs a little practice to find the sweet spot
