Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 Portable Speaker - Sunset Red 984-001376 review
What’s better than a stylish speaker that delivers high-quality sound in a portable shell?- Waterproof and dust proof, Can float in the pool or bath, Excellent connectivity, Fantastic smartphone app, Lightweight and portable design, Connects easily to Bluetooth, Wireless charging available, Incredible volume, Good audio control features, Works with other Ultimate Ears tools, Great design
- Sound quality isn’t as fantastic as other UE products, Wireless charging dock comes separately
Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 Portable Speaker - Sunset Red 984-001376 review
Even though it's an iterative update to the previous Boom, this refresh is the most significant improvement to hit the line in five years -- and it pays off- Fantastic battery life, Clear and loud sound quality, Good design and tough materials
- Lack of digital assistant integration, No quick charging feature, Not as many colour choices as previous models
Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 Portable Speaker - Sunset Red 984-001376 review
The UE Boom 3 might not be the best sounding speaker around, but it makes up for that with a few useful features and an improved portable design that makes it way easier to bring with you wherever you are.- IP67 certification and floats, Portable bottle-shaped design, Connect to 150 other UE speakers via app, Wireless charging available with purchase of dock, Loud
- Sound quality isn't great for the price, Wireless charging dock is separate, Even though the app is useful, it's still an app that you need to download
Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 Portable Speaker - Sunset Red 984-001376 review
I wonder if there's a future for speakers like the Boom 3. The industry trend is towards smartspeakers, and even UE is veering in that direction with its Alexa-enabled Blast line.
Tough, Small, Tidy.
The UE Boom 3 is tough, with an IP67 dustproof (6) and waterproof (7) rating, it can hold up to life's adventures and its misadventures (i.e. being dropped into a pool or the water at the beach). It also floats (however not as much as the photos suggest) which is nice. The UE Boom 3 is definitely the tidiest looking UE Boom to date. With its properly 360 degree appearance and it's new and redefined (and reliable) 'magic button'. There's no AUX port like the previous model, but this would have been removed due to the lack of use. The hanging hinge is now a nice materialised hoop at the top of the speaker, and the micro USB charging port is located at the horizontal surface now, so no need to charge your speaker upside down like the old days (or on its side). The bass, however, is nothing impressive. The advertising would make it seem like it must be incredible, but in reality, it's not much short of disappointing, so bare this in mind when buying your speaker. Overall, the UE Boom,
Loud
I bought this for my son. He loves it and uses it around the pool and while in the shower. It's a big improvement over the smaller model. Decent value for monet as it was on sale.
Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 Portable Speaker - Sunset Red 984-001376 review
The Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is the latest version of one of UE’s most popular wireless speakers . It isn’t too big, or too small, and can play music super-loudly. Ultimate Ears has tweaked the design a little this time round, to make it cleaner and more stylish.- Great rugged features, Loud, clean “360-degree” sound, Smart-looking design
- No aux input, Some rivals offer deeper bass and a better soundstage
Good value
For a small, portable bluetooth speaker, I think the Boom 3 is a solid, well made speaker with a clear and fairly loud sound. Battery life has been pretty good. I think UE's definition of 'deep bass' might be a bit different from mine. The Boom 3 is understated in the bass but very clear and punchy in the mids and not too thin in the top end. Two of these in stereo sound very nice. The app, however is a bit of disaster and I have found I have to completely power off my ipod everytime I need to re-connect. Sometimes the app won't recognize the device even when it's connected to the ipod/iphone and playing. Also, the Boom 3 fits into a bicycle drink holder/bidon cage. Apart from being a bit light on bass, I've been very pleased with the Boom 3. While it doesn't sound as nice as the Bose Soundlink, it's way cheaper, waterproof and has a much longer battery life.
