Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm F/1.4 R Lens - BRAND NEW review
There's not much more to say that the test results don't already show: very good performance, even when used wide open, and excellent performance when stopped down just a little. If you're an X-Pro 1 user, this lens definitely deserves a place in your bag.
Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R
I'll say it here and now - this is one of the best pieces of glass I've owned. It's small, light, beautifully built, has stunning image quality - even wide open it's super-sharp with the smallest amount of softening at the edges.- Pretty much everything
- Cannot think of anything

- Very good sharpness towards the edges when stopped down
- Very Lightweight
- Traditional design
- Excellent build
- Auto focus is a little on the slow side
- Can be tricky to get accurate focus at wide apertures
Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm F/1.4 R Lens - BRAND NEW review
As you may have noticed in the sample images section I enjoyed my time with Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R during a business trip to Japan. Technically it may not be a perfect lens but it is capable of delivering very nice results. The center quality is breathtaking even at max.
FUJIFILM XF 35mm f/1.4 R Lens - Brand New review
It's more expensive than your average fast fifty, but Fuji's take has a lot to offer.
The 35mm (135 equivalent: 53mm) lens has a standard focal length with the angle of view similar to that of the human eye.
If I were in the market for a 35mm lens now I'd be tempted by Fuji's new f2 model.
- Small
- Neat
- Very accurate autofocus
- Light for a such a fast lens
- Half decent lenshood
- Image quality hard to fault, but if it sounds as though I am damning it with faint praise, I suppose I am: the lens is workman-like, reliable and very good but not great
- This is now a fairly old lens
- Autofocus is still good, but while more than fast enough for most things it is not super-fast and nor is it quiet
- Performance optically is somewhere between very good and excellent, but I suspect the new f2 may have the edge based on the charts displayed here.

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm F1.4 R is a fast, compact standard-angle lens for Fuji mirrorless cameras, but focus is a little slow and edges are on the soft side. Fujifilm's X camera system launched in early 2012, and the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm F1.4 R ($599) was one of the first three lenses available for photographers who were captivated by the appealing X-Pro1 ( at Amazon) . It covers a standard-angle field of view, and when shot at a wide aperture allows you to capture images with a shallow depth of field, which makes it an ideal first lens for the system. It's a good performer, although it doesn't focus as quickly as more recent Fuji lenses and sharpness drops off as you near the edges of the frame. Our Editors' Choice is a newer offering, the Fujinon XF 35mm F2 R WR ($399.00 at Amazon) —it's a stop slower, but is quicker to focus, smaller, sharper, weather-resistant, and less expensive. DesignThe XF 35mm F1.4 ($599.00 at Amazon) measures 2.2 by 2.6 inches (HD), weighs 6.6 ounces, and supports 52mm front filters. It's no by means a large lens—it balances quite well even on a smaller body like the Fujifilm X-T10 ( at Amazon) . But it ...- Sharp center
