We were looking for a camera with a better zoom and wow that’s exactly what we got .... the zoom is amazing and picture quality fantastic We’re not professional photographers we take pictures for pleasure and as lovers of bird watching wanted clearer bird pictures.

Really like this camera. Easy to use and results are great. Takes a bit of getting used to in full telephoto mode with stabilisation but with a bit of practice can be overcome. Haven’t photographed ‘The Moon’ yet as waiting for a clear night! Nikon Image Space and SnapBridge Apps are very useful.

I was skeptical about this camera due to the smaller sensor. I purchased it for bird and wildlife photography. I was surprised at how capable the camera is at full 2000mm zoom hand held. I get sharp pictures in good light and acceptable ones in low light.

If you’re looking for a camera with boasting rights when it comes to optical zoom, then the Nikon Coolpix P950 delivers a range that zooms all the way to 2000mm equivalent. Smaller and lighter than the Nikon Coolpix P1000 , the P950 is still a large and heavy camera, at 1kg.

Cons:
- Shorter battery life
- Size

This camera was exactly what I expected, good for birding with some limitations such as limited aperture range and somewhat difficult menus. It does help to have a monopod to stabilize at long focal length. Better than a scope though.

Nikon Coolpix P950 review
The only reason to consider buying the Nikon Coolpix P950 is its lens, which – covering an equivalent focal length range of 24-2000mm – is extraordinary. There are very few cameras that can match the P950's versatility, although you'll get better image quality and more advanced autofocus from several similarly-priced (but less ambitious) compact cameras.
Pros:
- Birding, travel (especially cruises, safaris etc), and those situations where you need to shoot for the moon – literally
Cons:
- Landscapes, fast-moving subjects or any situation where critical image quality is more important than zoom range

Nikon P950 review
The P950 is a solid evolution from its predecessor, with a good set of upgrades. If you absolutely must have 83x optical zoom and mostly shoot wildlife, then its reach and quality make it worth considering. But the flagship P1000 isn't much more expensive and there are better options for those craving a travel all-rounder.
Pros:
- Huge zoom
- Fully articulating screen
- Raw format shooting
- 4K video recording
Cons:
- Relatively small sensor
- A bit unwieldy
- No touchscreen
- Single UHS-I card slot
