Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review
Let me repeat my words from the summary of the FE 40 mm f/2.5 G model – Sony would have increased the interest in the G series trio, presented in March 2021, if only their focal lengths had differed a bit more.- solid and sealed mechanical construction,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, practically zero lateral chromatic aberration,, moderate distortion,, properly corrected coma,, negligible astigmatism,, moderate vignetting on the APS-C...
- some problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, high vignetting on full frame,, exorbitant price.

Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G Review
The Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G is a moderately wide prime that nets great photos without cutting corners in construction, placing it among our favorite small lenses for the Sony system. Sony is paying attention to a neglected focal length with its slim FE 40mm F2.5 G ($599.99). It's an especially small prime, built for travel and packing light, with an angle of view that's just a bit narrower than a 35mm lens. An aluminum barrel, weather protection, and tactile controls add to its appeal, as do optics that are sharp and focus close. It faces strong competition from the similar Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary, available for about $50 less, but it's hard to argue with the results that either delivers. Like the Sigma lens, we're giving the FE 40mm F2.5 G an Editors' Choice award, and recommend it especially to photographers who have never warmed to a 35mm prime.Compact G Concept The FE 40mm is one of three new lenses from Sony, all with the same basic outward appearance. It sits in between the FE 24mm F2.8 G and FE 50mm F2.5 G in focal length, but all are housed in metal barrels, with (barely) enough room for hands-on controls. Overall fit and finish is excellen...- Slim, light build
- Dust and splash protection
- Full-frame coverage
- Declickable aperture ring
- On-lens function button
- Speedy, quiet autofocus
- Visible focus breathing
- Missing anti-smudge protection
- Cramped controls

Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review
The third lens of the set proves itself beyond doubt to be up amongst the best. As a set, they are remarkably consistent and at a very high level as well. Ergonomics are excellent and the technical performance leaves nothing to be desired.
Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review
Sony currently offers five full-frame 50mm lenses, from the highly affordable FE 50mm F1.8 (£299) to the exceptional-quality FE 50mm F1.2 GM (£2,100). The FE 50mm F2.5 G offers an alternative in a nice compact and lightweight form that’s weather-sealed and has a de-clickable aperture ring along with...
Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review
The FE 50mm f/2.5 G is the final member of a trio of compact prime lenses announced by Sony in late March 2021, and it’s the pick of the trio when it comes to overall performance and versatility.
Ideal wark about lense
I was in the market for a small prime lense as I have a z55 and sony 35F25 I neded something with moor flexibility and portability. The FE40 features moor than fit the bill, its amazingly fast at focus Ideal for street photography and assigning APS-C to focus hold button for that extra rech makes it perfect for my use.
Weather Resistant & well made with close focusing.
I used the 40 mm f2.5 & my 55 mm f1.8 Zeiss blends well together and light enough for any occasion.
